Activity Therapist required for Brookvale Manor Private Nursing Home, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo.

Description:

To plan and implement activities appropriate to Residents’ needs and requests.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Activities:

 

  1. Help Residents to socialise within the Nursing Home, and provide a variety of activities that cater for all tastes.
  2. Plan and initiate monthly rolling / individual programmes, and encourage Residents to maintain pre-existing hobbies.
  3. Encourage Staff Members, Relatives and Friends to participate in the Nursing Home's activities.
  4. Accompany Residents, where possible, to off-site activities, which may occasionally take place outside normal working hours.
  5. Help to create an atmosphere that suits individual Residents within the Nursing Home.
  6. Assist budgeting for entertainments, materials and outings and sourcing external financial assistance where available and appropriate.
  7. Maintain full and accurate records of daily activities using appropriate documentation and assist the Named Carer to review and update Resident Care Files.
  8. Establish and maintain relationships with residents that are based on respect and equality and that promote their independence.

Maintenance Operative

Maintenance Operative required for Kilminchy Lodge Private Nursing Home, Kilminchy, Portaloise, Co. Laois.

Full-time position.

JOB PURPOSE: To provide routine maintenance services to the Nursing Home
under the direction of the Director of Nursing.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Undertake all routine maintenance tasks and minor general repair work as requested by the Director of Nursing.
• To check the maintenance request book for tasks to be completed. Set priorities with Managers.
• On a weekly basis undertake the fire alarm test and routine check of the fire doors security doors, and window restrictors.
• On a weekly basis undertake a routine check of Wheelchairs, Reclining Chairs and
Nursing Beds.
• To take delegated responsibility for emergency lighting checks and fire alarm tests.
• On a monthly basis undertake delegated responsibilities for the visual check of the fire fighting apparatus e.g. Extinguishers and Hydrants.
• Checking of water temperatures of sinks, showers and baths. Monthly basis. Keeping
accurate records and forwarding to the maintenance manager on a weekly basis.
• Cleaning shower heads and waste traps.
• Boiler Room: checking water hardness, check water temperatures within the boiler room.
• Keeping accurate records and forwarding to the Nursing Manager on a weekly basis.
• Fit shelves and picture hooks in resident’s rooms as requested.
• Assist staff with moving furniture as requested.
• Keep records of consumables and control of maintenance stock.
• Ensure a supply of matched paint and undertake running repairs of scuffed paintwork.
• Change light bulbs and clean shades as required.
• Ensure that the grounds, car park and gardens are maintained and are free from litter, and are kept clean & tidy at all times.
• Report to the Manager if a particular job falls outside the Training/Skill of the post holder.
• Liaising with trades and contractors working in the home.
• Ad-Hoc duties including accepting deliveries, local business errands and resident errands as needed.
• It is the responsibility of each employee to be responsible for Health and Safety of
Residents, Visitors and Staff, and to report any hazards or potential hazards to the person in charge.
• Must be flexible to work across other homes within the Brindley Healthcare group, assist other maintenance personnel and cover holiday periods as and when required.
• Able to be called upon during out of normal working hours.
• Adhere to all Brindley Healthcare policies & procedures.
• Undertake any other duties or training consistent with the role.
• All employees must adhere to the dress code as described at induction. Personal Protective Equipment must also be worn as directed and in full compliance with Health and Safety Legislation where applicable.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in Building Trades / Electrical / Carpentry / Plumbing / Mechanical Services.

JOB PURPOSE:
To assist in organizing and controlling the efficient and economic production of quality food within the allowed budget, whilst maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Food Preparation:

1. Assist in the preparation, cooking and serving of meals.

2. Participate in Staff meetings as required.

3. Wash up after meals. Ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area (and, where appropriate, the dining areas) is carried out effectively.

4. Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.

SKILLS,KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (H.A.C.C.P.)

• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels. English language ability must be such that the staff member is competent to communicate effectively with colleagues and or residents in relation to speaking, listening, reading and writing

• Team player.

• Proof of clearance to work through Garda Vetting Unit.

• Good English.

• 2 years previous experience in a similar role.

Occupational Therapist

This full-time position to cover our three nursing homes in Donegal; one located at Lisfannon, Fahan, County Donegal and two located at Convoy, County Donegal. 

Candidates MUST have Degree in Occupational Therapy AND current registration with AOTI.

JOB PURPOSE:

To facilitate the purposeful, occupational development and maintenance of residents with mental, emotional, and physical disabilities by assessing, planning and administering person centred care plans based on physical and psychological conditions in residents to maximize their levels of independence in everyday life.

Occupational therapy is client-centered, concerned with promoting health and well-being through occupation. It involves enabling individuals and groups to do the things that they need and want to do in everyday life, and assists people to develop and maintain a meaningful lifestyle.

The focus is on three areas as follows: The individual person - improving or maintaining their level of physical, cognitive (thinking), affective (emotional) and social ability. The environment - manipulating or adapting the physical, social, cultural and institutional environment. The task - analyzing the task, comparing the demands of the task with the individual's abilities, and changing the task to make it possible for the person to do.

The role involves predominantly working with elderly residents in our private nursing homes; one located at Lisfannon, Fahan, Co. Donegal and two located at Convoy, Co. Donegal.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE::

  • Design and development of focused individual care plans and group exercise sessions to maintain and improve quality of life for the resident community.
  • Setting outcome measures using research based functional and fitness assessments.
  • Providing ongoing one to one physiotherapy sessions to residents based on completion of initial baseline assessments.
  • Maintaining and updating individual resident records.
  • Working hand in hand with the home medical team to integrate physiotherapy as an integral part of the care plans.
  • Clients would include predominantly (but not exclusively) geriatrics with physical and mental pathologies (stroke, Alzheimers and related dementias) right through to able bodied and active ageing adults.
  • Third Level Degree in Physiotherapy qualification required.
  • Current membership of ISCP essential.
  • Experience either working with or knowledge of a long term geriatric population would be greatly beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • This is an ideal position for a qualified graduate with a genuine interest in working with the ageing population.
