Retirement Party
Retirement of Canon Joseph Cooney PP and Dr Alan Delaney MD in November 2011

In November 2011 Brookvale Manor celebrated the retirement of Canon Joseph Cooney PP Ballyhaunis and Dr Alan Delaney MD and thanked them for their many years of service to the residents of Brookvale Manor Nursing Home.

Friday 29th July 2011 was a day filled with emotion for Dr Alan Delaney and his many loyal patients, when he bid farewell to the practice he had served with great dedication for over forty years. He came to Ballyhaunis in 1967 as locum for 2 weeks and ended up staying over forty years.

On 26th June 2011 Canon Joe Cooney celebrated fifty years of memories and service to the Sacred Ministry of the Priesthood when parishioners, family and colleagues turned out to celebrate the Golden Jubilee and retirement of our much loved Parish Priest.

Dr Delaney and Canon Cooney returned to Brookvale Manor one more time in November, when we celebrated the lives of our residents who passed away in 2011 with mass. After mass, Amanda, our Managing Director made a presentation to both men with a special word of thanks for two of the first people to introduce themselves to her on her arrival in Ballyhaunis in 2003. Since then both have been a source of tremendous support to her both personally and professionally, in particular Canon Cooney who has had been by her side through the good and the difficult.

Canon Cooney said “I have had eighteen wonderful years in Ballyhaunis and those years have brought home how precious the gift of Priesthood is. Ballyhaunis has been a wonderful home to me and the friendship, goodwill, co-operation and everyday assistance I received from the people here is something I will treasure for the rest of my life”.

Meanwhile Fr Stephen Farragher has taken up the duty of Parish Priest of Ballyhaunis and Dr Glen Lecky, a native of Co Donegal, has replaced Alan at Annagh Medical Centre.

We join with the people of Ballyhaunis in wishing a happy and healthy retirement to Canon Cooney and Dr Delaney, and a warm welcome and the very best of luck to Fr Farragher and Dr Lecky.
